Moving the site to a new host did not go as smooth as I hoped. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING – IT MAY AFFECT YOUR ACCOUNT, BLOGS, MESSAGES, ETC. Please do not ask me what happen to my blog, message, etc, until you have read the following message.
The move is completed, I repeat the move to the host is now complete
– but during the move there were some casualties. I don’t want to bore
you with the technical details but in essence when you are moving to a
new host, you basically have two sites running at the same time. The
OLD host is still being accessed by members and the NEW host is not
being accessed by members while the move is in progress. The word they
use to explain this phenomenon is called “propagation” and it can take
anywhere from 3 to 24 hours for it to complete.
Heads Up
If you joined the site between May 4 and May 6
and you can NOT log in, you will have to join again. What happen is
that you join while the move was in progress and your account was
dropped once the move was completed. All I can do is apologize and ask
you to sign up again.
If you are a current member and made any changes, comments, blogs, sent messages, etc, between May 4 and May 6,
there is a chance they were dropped while the move was in progress.
Same with any messages you may of sent to the admin. They may of been
dropped and I did not receive them. Again, all I can do is apologize
for the inconvenience.
Options
I
did have the option of taking the site off line. But I was told that
the transition would go seamlessly. Oh well, live and learn.
Problems
Besides
new members and data being dropped, there may be a chance that links
or files related to the script were dropped as well. So
if you are checking out a member’s blog, a members image, a members
profile, video, audio, etc, and have a problem, please report it. For that matter, anyone who wants to start clicking away on the site to help check things out, please do. If
you do find a problem, please be as detailed as possible -- for
example, I clicked on xxxxx’s (replace xxxxxx with member’s username)
blog and got the following error.
New Host
One
of the concerns I was trying to address with this move was chat. If
anyone uses the chat (IM) please send me a message to let me know if it
is working ok. Also I hope performance has improved so things are
loading faster. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Admin
My
job is just beginning. This move gave me a whole new cpanel to help me
maintain the site. The support seems fairly good so if I can’t figure
it out, hopefully I can get my host to do so. If there is a problem
related to your account or you find a problem on the site, be as
detailed as possible in case I have to ask the host for a solution.
Please give me at least 24 hours to try to resolve a problem,
especially if I have to ask for support from my host. Again, if you
have a problem using the site, be as detailed a possible. If I have to
ask my host for a solution, they will NOT help if I do not provide
enough details.
