It is a combination of things, but to understand our intentions I need to give you a little history. I met my wife on an online dating site. It was an experience that changed my life. Life, as it was, changed to a life of the possibility of finding happiness. As the song says, “I was looking for love in all the wrong places.” No more bar scenes or parties hoping to meet the love of my life. Instead, my computer and my search for love became my weekends. For some reason, the internet made finding happiness seem possible again.

I found the love of my life. As of this writing we have been married six years and not a day goes by I’m not grateful for the love I found all because of the internet. It was then I started my own dating site – mostly from appreciation and the hope that others could find what I found. It grew and became costly to run both with time and money. To survive I had to start charging memberships.

For a few years things seem to be running smoothly. Than a new law called International Marriage Broker Act (IMBRA) changed the online dating world as we knew it. I had to comply with the law for reasons that are too lengthy and complex to explain here. What IMBRA created was a governmental burden and once again the time and expense became too much for a small mom and pop site to keep up with. We shut down for a period of 3 or 4 months contemplating if we should close the doors for good or keep going. It was the emails from appreciative members that gave us reason to open our doors again. But when we open, I knew we had to change membership to FREE to escape the governmental legal interference now invading every man and women’s privacy who were looking for love on the internet and to avoid governmental regulation that made it costly and time consuming for a mom and pop webmaster to survive. Instead of being treated as adults, the government was taking away our rights using false statistics and condemning a business that for the majority was a benefit to those who needed a place other than bar rooms and local events to find love.

I could go on, but FREE membership was the only way we could survive as a small mom and pop site. For a man or woman who wants another way to meet others, the internet should be available without having the government involved in our love life. There are many places on the net to find love, some are quite costly and IMBRA categorized dating sites that made what was an even playing field for all online dating sites, a place where only corporate dating sites could survive and make a profit. At times we still struggle to find the time to keep going, but once again it is member’s appreciation that gives us the needed incentive to keep the doors open with FREE membership for both male and female members.
